Living well with diverticular disease

Diverticular disease should be a relatively benign condition affecting the large bowel, although it can affect any area of the gastro-intestinal tract, from mouth to anus. It's more common in people over the age of 60 with about 2 out of 3 people affected during their lifetime, but is becoming more common in younger people too.

Many people who have diverticular disease have no problems, but up to a quarter of people diagnosed with this condition are plagued with debilitating flare-ups called diverticulitis, where the only option they have is to take antibiotics to help prevent the infection getting worse. The current theory is that the inflammation and/or infection occurs because of an overgrowth of pathogenic, unfriendly bacteria in the diverticula pockets.

There are many things you can do, both dietary and with targeted natural supplements to prevent these flare-ups and we mention these in the Just For Tummies Diverticular Disease Fact Sheet that you can download for free here: https://justfortummies.co.uk/diverticular-disease-fact-sheet-download/
